How does timeshare work? - Travel

Timeshares fell out of favour for a little while, but they are coming back in popularity again, mostly because of the economy. Having a timeshare lets people have a great holiday spot at a guaranteed time of year each year, and they are able to go to a place that they really like and stay somewhere nice and familiar. They don't have to worry about booking a good hotel or getting a cottage, they don't have to worry about things being all booked up if there is some kind of festival or convention going on, and they don't have to worry about whether they will be able to take a holiday, because their accommodations are already taken care of. It's a great feeling to know that you don't have to dish out extra money to stay somewhere else because the place that you'd hoped to get was booked up, or that you don't have to worry about the idea of ending up in a place that's less than desirable. Instead, you can just go to your timeshare on your assigned week or weeks and live there o n your holiday, until it's time to come home. You pay a fee for maintenance, and you pay for your 'ownership' of the timeshare for that week, but other than that you can do as you please.

It's like buying, really, but you only have use of it during a predetermined time and you can't make changes like painting, etc. It does avoid the need for a hotel and provide you with something that you actually own and can sell for profit if you choose to, which are a couple of reasons why people like timeshares so much.

The idea of a timeshare is not new, but many people still don't really know that much about them or their benefits. They see commercials and sales presentations about them, but they feel that they are being pressured to buy, and so they don't. In truth, though, there are benefits to timeshares for the right people, and through research you can decide if it's for you, or if it would be better for you to have another holiday plan in mind. Timeshares can be expensive, and not everyone wants to buy one or make payments on one, but since so many people do like them and what they have to offer, it looks like they'll be popular for a long time to come. If you take your holiday in one area each year and plan on continuing to do so, a timeshare could save you money in the long run.
