Exposed - What Is A Keyword Search? - Business - Entrepreneurship

What is a keyword search

I suggest that it is more than you would expect. I want to expose some core principals that will help you find the right keywords for your business. This is so fundamental because without the right keyword phrases your business does not even get off the ground.

Firstly or course a keyword search is looking for keywords that are going to fit a certain criteria that is going to help you rank your web pages into the search engines and drive traffic to an offer.

That is the simple and obvious answer. However it needs to be a lot more detailed.

Let's start with the criteria.

Your keyword needs to be a word or phrase that has targeted traffic using that phrase consistently on a daily and monthly basis. You can look for keywords using a keyword tool. These tools are easily found in search engines when you put in "keyword tool."

Your keyword also needs to be targeted to your business so you direct the right hungry customers to your offer.

Your keyword also needs to have a low amount of competition associated with the phrase

So what is a keyword search? In summary it is a search to find keyword phrases that have high traffic coming to that phrase, low competition using that phrase and targeted to your business.

However let us make this a little more direct and easier to work on. Just as there is a formula to work out various laws of nature there is also a formula to work out if you have a powerful keyword or not.

The formula is called KEI (Keyword Effectiveness Index). So this means how effective your keyword is. So the question of what is a keyword search gets more involved and more powerful.

The formula is made up of traffic and competition

So go to your keyword tool and type in your keyword to get the monthly searches for that term. Then go to the Google home page and type in the keyword term in speech marks and read the number of web pages using that term

The simple formula is KEI = Traffic/Competition - in speech marks X 100

If the KEI figure is greater than 30 then it is a good one. If it is more than 100 then you need to jump on this straight away.

So hopefully now you understand the true meaning of what is a keyword search. You know this because it's determined by traffic, being a targeted phrase and has low competition. You also know how to find this by working out the KEI factor of the term and seeing if it is a great keyword phrase to rank your web pages
