There are many ways how you can drive traffic to your blog. You can promote it at various places: social bookmarking sites, YouTube, forums, blogs, etc. But the easiest source of free traffic are search engines. To get traffic from search engines you need to be present on top positions in search results. Of course, your website can not rank for all possible search phrases. You need to select few relevant keywords and then optimize blog pages for these keywords. This means applying some simple SEO techniques to achieve high ranking positions in search results.
The first and the most important SEO element is targeting right keywords. You need to choose keywords or search phrases that are related to the content of your website, have decent search volume and have low or weak competition. The last SEO phase if off-page optimization. You need to create some backlinks to blog pages. Each backlink will not only direct users to your blog, links are also used by search engines to determine page relevancy. The more links it has the more important is the page. And important pages always rank high.
