Search Engine Optimisation: Looking at On-Site SEO - Website Promotion - Online Promotion

When people hear of Search Engine Optimisation, they may feel daunted and out of their depth, when in fact many processes are common sense and the majority of guidelines to common practices are readily available, even from the search engines themselves. Here's a quick look at On-Site SEO.

On-Site SEO basically translates as the parts of your website which you need to adapt or add in order for it to be SEO friendly, or more crawlable by the search engine robots. This relates to individual pages within your website, and will likely affect all of your website, too. Off-Site SEO relates to the work which needs to be carried out externally, away from your website in order for the process to begin to bear fruit. You cannot really have one without the other, as just relying on one is insufficient.

Most people agree that your SEO should be at a ratio of around 30/70 or 60/40 in favour of Off-Site SEO, depending on the size of your site, of course. The vast majority of your on-site SEO should be done with the users in mind, and you should always steer clear of keyword stuffing (placing too many keywords on a page in order to target that phrase), and go for a user experience. If your pages sound weird, people won't like it and will click away. Similar methods such as cloaking are also frowned upon by the search engines that have specific teams to target these kind of bad practices. Some specific on-page SEO is exactly for the search engines. The likes of html tags, meta tags and descriptions, robots.txt files and.htaccess for example will all be used by a search engine to display your website within the search engine page results.

Some aspects of the on-page SEO can overlap. For example, the description tag on each page could be more important now with personalised search so that when people find you, you have a "sticky" website. This means that through reading the snippets of text presented on the results pages of a search query, you will want to stand out from the others so users click on your site, and find what they need. Google (and likely the other engines) remember your search preferences (even when you are logged out) and will present this page to you again in the future above others. So here's an instance where it is important to deliver on both accounts. With the rise of mobile devices being used to navigate the internet, it's important to have img & alt tags within your site for those devices that perhaps will not be able to show all the images on a page, and also for seo rankings, as this provides an even clearer picture to the engines as to a page's content and purpose.

  1. True to say, I'm always after on site seo and to me it gets priority for ranking well in search engines. Basically, it may take time to analysis keywords, tracking web position and competitors analysis but if it can be done through online reliable and affordable seo tools then you don't have to think about. I've checked several tools and Colibri Tool is perfect yet to me which is available here http://colibritool.com. I'll suggest this for all.
