What is SEO?

SEO is short for Search Engine Optimisation.it is the rather technical aspect of marketing on the internet. This is so because it requires some basic knowledge about web languages like the html at least. SEO basically means to optimize the web pages to get them to be higher up in the search results in different search engines. Now, search engines generally work with text and so SEO is many a time also called SEO copyrighting.

SEO is important for promotion of the site but it does not guaranty success immediately. Getting the basics right will surely affect in a positive way but forgetting the basic rules is criminal. Setting realistic and easy goals for short term should be practiced for they are more achievable and they keep the motivation level up.

SEO is a little different from advertising because it focuses on the matter you have on your site and its relevance with the searched keyword. The search engine will not notice whether you pay or it works for free. If the site has relevant stuff, it will be posted in the results. When the keyword in question is rare and uncommon, then it's pretty easy to get into the top zone. But when the keyword is common, one needs to pay special attention to SEO and work on it.

It is primary to know how a search engine works before going about working on SEO.

A very basic fact about the internet is that the search engine is not human. It does not recognize color or the themes used. The engine will focus on the text. It therefore becomes important that we focus our attention towards the material on the site in text form before anything else.
A search engine performs several operations which include crawling, indexing, processing retrieving etc.

Crawling includes the use of software called crawler which goes from one link to another and indexes everything it finds in its way. now, we know that the number of pages on the web exceeds 20 billion and so visiting every page every time for the crawler is impossible therefore, it is advised that one should see what a crawler sees from your site and update things accordingly.

This is followed by the important work of indexing. this simply involves assigning the page to a particular set of keywords or phrases that best describes the page. then the engine has various algorithms to check the relevancy of the page. and finally the results are compiled and displayed in the browser.
