You can do all the search engine optimization (SEO) you want to your website, but in the end, Google has the final say in your search engine rankings. Since Google puts so much weight on back links, domain age and content, it can seem impossible to get any traffic to a new domain. If you break down these factors you really don't have much control over your search engine rankings when starting a new website on a new domain. Getting hundreds or even thousands of high quality back links will take years, not to mention that there is no way to speed up domain age. However, we can control our content and optimize it to the point where Google has no choice but to rank it high for the keyword phrase it was optimized for.
Research the niche or market before trying to take your piece of it
The very first mistake you can make is trying to enter into an over saturated and highly competitive market or niche. It may take some time, but you need to find a niche or market that has a reasonable amount of competition. Your keyword analysis tool should be able to advise you if a market or niche is a good idea to enter based on the data it retrieves from Google search results and other Google tools. If the tool you are using cannot do this, then you need a new keyword analysis tool.
Use your keyword analysis tool to buy your domain
The second mistake many people make is not using their keyword analysis tool to help them find a domain name that has their main keyword phrase they will be targeting at the beginning. Do not under estimate the power of having your main keyword phrase in your domain name. This alone can make or break your search engine rankings depending on the size of your website or blog. Take the time to find a good keyword rich domain and do not settle for anything less.
Write your content based on your findings
Now that you have taken the time to find some great keywords, you need to take the time to write an article around each one of those keywords keeping the article relevant, readable and useful. Don't worry too much about keyword density, just make sure your keyword phrase is sprinkled throughout the article and that it reads naturally. You need to find a happy medium between pleasing bots and humans.
Optimize each web page or blog post individually
Don't completely rely on fancy plug-ins or programs to do all of your search engine optimization for you. Start from top to bottom and make sure everything is optimized. Make sure the following are optimized with your keyword phrase by checking your source code.
A few notes about off page search engine optimization
Though off page SEO is beyond the scope of this article, the keyword list you generated from your keyword analysis tool should be used for off page SEO as well. This means linking back to your website or blog with those keywords as anchor text. These keywords can also be used in press releases and articles for article marketing to help drive traffic too.
