For anyone to succeed in the Internet Marketing business, having an understanding of the Search Engine algorithm or "anatomy", if you will, is mandatory. This is because Search Engines have become part of our lives as Internet usage continues to grow exponentially in today's world.
Personally, I hardly missed a day using the computer without visiting the Search Engine pages. Multiply that by a billion users to be conservative, and you get an idea of how powerful this internet tool is. That is why those who conduct SEO classes charge a high fee for the subject.
What is it exactly?
Search Engine Optimization (or SEO), refers to the process of preparing, building and promoting your website in a way that will improve its ranking position in the Search Engines' results.
SEO is extremely important because most internet users will not click past the third page of the search results.
To succeed in SEO, it is important to understand its 4 components:
1. Preparation Phase
Before you even start building your very first page of your website, you need to have a clear idea of what you want your site to be about and how you are going to build it in a SEO way to make it attractive to the Search Engines. Have a plan in mind so you wouldn't waste precious time stumbling along the way as you construct your webpages.
2. On-Page SEO
This refers to every single page on your website. Now, take note that Search Engines rank webpages, not websites. Hence, you need to optimize every page of yours and not just the homepage alone.
3. Off-Page SEO
This refers to webpages other than yours with links pointing back to your websites. Backlinks, as it is more commonly known, is extremely important in the eyes of Search Engines. Most people will optimize their own webpages, but they do not put enough focus to do off-page optimization. The more external links you get, the more traffic you will have, and the more you will move up in the ranking of Search Engines. I've mentioned a few ways of achieving that on my previous articles.
4. Effective Monetization
Now, I presume that your main reason for drawing huge traffic to your website is to make money online. And to make as much money as possible you will need to include good advertisement. The main direction is of course to offer some good products that you are promoting, be it your own or an affiliate product.
Although having an understanding of the Search Engine anatomy is crucial, always remember that getting that traffic is one thing, keeping it is another. Always ask yourself this simple question: "Is my website attractive and what exactly do I have to offer that is valuable?"
Ongoing innovation and learning is the way to go to stay current in the Internet Marketing Business.
