It seems everyone these days is offering SEO services, and many organizations are charging hefty prices for them. With some basic SEO knowledge, however, you can perform (or have your webmaster perform) a small number of tasks to ensure you have the basics covered, without resorting to paying huge fees for what are actually simple things. Far too many people are paying fees for pay per click ads as well, when they could be focusing on many free or more affordable SEO techniques that would have the same or better results.

For starters, SEO stands for search engine optimization, which in general means that if you have a website, you want it to be found easily and quickly when people are using a search engine such as google or yahoo! to look for what you are offering. Search engines are by far the most common way people begin a search for what they want online, therefore it is time and effort well spent to ensure that your website comes up as a top search result for your desired keywords. Keywords are words which both describe what you offer and which people would type in a search bar when looking for said offerings. For instance, if you own a store that sells pet supplies, make a list of things your potential customers might search for, including your location (specific mall, town, etc.) and ensure your website features these words and phrases prominently.
